SUSTAINABILITY WEBINAR SERIES
CALPHAD-Informed Pathways for Advanced and Sustainable Alloy Development
Speaker: Dr. Fuyao Yan
Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 10 AM CET/4 PM CST
CALPHAD-informed (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) methods are now indispensable for creating lighter, stronger, and more heat-resistant alloys. This presentation shows how Thermo-Calc databases and software enable an integrated workflow for designing high-performance materials in space, energy, and advanced manufacturing.
By combining thermodynamic predictions with engineering insights, the workflow targets key properties such as creep resistance, oxidation, and precipitation behavior. This reduces experimental cycles, minimizes waste, and pinpoints optimal chemistries, increasing R&D efficiency while supporting longer service life, recyclability, and lower environmental impact.
In this webinar, case studies will highlight the development of refractory complex concentrated alloys and oxide dispersion-strengthened alloys, with focus on high-temperature integrity, additive manufacturability, and resource efficiency. Attendees will gain practical insight into how CALPHAD workflows accelerate go/no-go decisions, reduce reliance on critical raw materials, and enable discovery of sustainable, application-ready alloys.
