Computational Aqueous Thermodynamics for Corrosion Studies

Corrosion is driven by complex interactions between materials and their environment. Understanding these interactions often requires insight into the thermodynamic stability of metallic phases, oxides, hydroxides, and dissolved aqueous species across a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and solution chemistries. Thermo-Calc provides a computational framework for investigating such systems through equilibrium thermodynamic calculations that combine alloy chemistry with aqueous solution thermodynamics.
In this webinar, we will demonstrate how computational aqueous thermodynamics can be used to support corrosion studies, materials selection, and alloy development. Using the Aqueous Calculator in Thermo-Calc, we will explore thermodynamic calculations for evaluating phase stability, aqueous speciation, and electrochemical conditions, including Pourbaix diagram calculations for multicomponent alloys and complex environments. The webinar will also highlight how these calculations can provide valuable insights into passivation, oxide stability, and the influence of alloy composition and environmental variables on corrosion-related behavior.
